Power to the People

I feel enthusiastic about politics for the first time since Barack Obama won his first election. Anna and I volunteered for his campaign, knocking on doors and registering voters and we were invited to Obama’s election night rally in Grant Park and we were in that huge crowd when the announcement came that he had won the election. After the rally we walked with the thousands of others through the streets of downtown Chicago, singing, dancing, laughing, and crying as we realized how history had just been made. It was a powerful feeling to be part of that sea of humanity.

Today I am recalling those feelings as I reflect on the campaign of Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. I am reminded that the reason Barack Obama won is because the people of this country stood up in power and chose a president who reflected who we want to be as a nation. We have that opportunity again.

It’s time to step up and be heard. I know that very few people will read this, but I hope that anyone who does will join me in voting to elect a candidate for president and vice president who will support the people of this country with courage, love, and honesty. I’m talking about Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.
